Hey everybody! As I said in my last blog that I will be writing about the food donation drive that my friend has started, so here are the details of it and how you can contribute to it:

On 6th May was my birthday, and not in a million years would I imagine myself celebrating it at home without my friends, extended family, party snacks, or even a proper cake. But I was constantly reminded that mine isn’t the worst plight out there, millions are suffering, many are hungry and stranded, families aren’t allowed to be with their sick and dying, dogs are starving, people on the frontlines are exposed and lacking resources, I can’t be sitting under a roof with food and water complaining about such trivial things in life.

With the awareness of my privilege & aspiration to contribute to the welfare of those around me, I had decided to run a small donation drive on the 6th. Some of my family members, close friends, and teachers helped me collect almost 13,000 Rs. This money was put to use in Three ways:

  1. 30 Dry Ration Meals (dal -1 kg, rice -1kg, aata- 1 kg, salt- 1kg) for 30 families of daily wage workers
  2. Pedigree — 15kgs for almost 60 Dogs on random streets
  3. 30 portions of 2 Bananas, 1 Apple & 1 Juice Box (recycled my old newspapers as bags to avoid using plastic) for policemen tirelessly braving the heat and diligently acting on the frontline to decrease vector transmission

Throughout the day a sense of fulfillment brewed within, and it was fuelled perhaps by reminders of validation from my family. However, come night this feeling faded, replaced with a realization of the massive numbers that are severely hit by this pandemic, and that we need to everything we can to heal and come out of this stronger, together.

I’ve decided to do as many drives as possible, we’ll be providing more dry ration meals, more food to furr babies out there, individual meals to kids on the street. I urge you to do your bit, even a little bit and donate. Help me do this! Just 150 rs will provide for 1 whole family’s dry ration kit, 50 Rs will provide for 1 kids meal.
